4 Tips to improve skin health
Every day we are bombarded daily with commercial messages and beauty tips that attempt to lure us into believing that the most recent miracle drug is just what we need to give us perfect skin.
But you know what? The best route to healthy skin is to take care of what you have.
Sounds simple, doesn’t it?
Did you know that our skin takes a beating from the environment every single day and I know we don’t want to hear this, but once we hit our mid-twenties, we are now technical in the ‘aging process’.
So, it helps to take measures to try and prevent lines and wrinkles.
Here are some of my favourite beauty tips for keeping your skin fresh and healthy:
- Stay hydrated, drink water!
That does not mean soda or caffeine.
Soda (even diet soda) has a high concentration of sodium. Sodium retains fluids.
You need fluid that will hydrate and flush your body free of toxins.
Make sure you are drinking at least 8 glasses a day!
- Protect your skin from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.
We all love the sun. We love being in it and we love having a beautiful tan.
The truth is that sometimes the sun is not good for us. UV rays cause skin cancer and if that isn’t bad enough it causes your skin to age faster than it should, contributing to unsightly wrinkles.
If you are spending time in the sun, make certain you are using an adequate sunscreen.
- Keep your skin clean.
Wash your face every morning with a gentle cleanser and again before you go to bed. If you are wearing makeup it is a good idea to double cleanse to ensure you are removing all makeup from your skin.
Apply masks 1-2 times per week for some extra love.
There are different types of mask you could use. A clay mask is great for drawing out impurities from the skin & a hydrating sheet mask is great to boost skin hydration. I like to use both of these masks once a week.
- Eat healthily.
Knowing how and what to eat, can make a huge difference in how you feel. Improper eating habits can cause depression, weight gain, illness and overall lethargy. It also doesn’t help your skin. So make sure to eat fruits and veggies!
I could keep going on, as there is a multitude of things that we can do to assist our skin health, but to keep it short and sweet if you begin these 4 tips, then I believe you are going in the right direction.
